When Janie lost her husband Peter on Valentine’s Day 2023, her world was turned upside down. After years of caring for each other through illness, she was heartbroken without him and left with a new challenge — arranging a funeral for someone we love while still grieving.
“It was a terrible ordeal,” she admits. “I didn’t know what to do or what was expected of me. And having to organise it all while grieving was the worst experience of my life.”
On top of the emotional strain came the financial stress. Janie had to dip into the savings she had set aside for other things. “I was terrified I’d miscalculate and end up in debt. I never want to go through that again.”
That experience left a mark. Janie knew she never wanted to go through that again, and she certainly didn’t want to leave the same burden behind for anyone else when it came time for her funeral.
For Janie, this was a turning point. She started looking online and came across Aura, and began exploring prepaid funeral plans. Planning her own funeral gave her back a sense of control and eased the fear of leaving a burden behind.
She spoke with Anne-Sophie from our team, who listened to her story and guided her through her options. Together, they put in place a straightforward, direct cremation plan, which was exactly what Janie wanted.
By choosing Aura, Janie lifted a weight from her shoulders. Her plan guarantees her wishes are clearly laid out and fully paid for, so when the time comes, there will be no difficult decisions, no hidden costs, and no added pressure for anyone left behind.
Janie’s story reflects why we do what we do at Aura. Losing someone is hard enough and arranging a funeral shouldn’t add to that pain. That’s why our prepaid funeral plans are designed to be simple, affordable, and reassuring.
Like Janie, you too can find peace of mind in knowing your wishes are respected and your loved ones protected.

Aura is built on family values. Founded by Paul Jameson, alongside his son Dave and family friend Ben, our company was born out of lived experience and a desire to do things differently. We are proud to remain family-run and committed to giving the kind of care, compassion, and service we would want for those dearest to us.

When you have a funeral plan in place, all the services necessary for your direct cremation are covered. This thoughtfully eases the burden on those left behind, as they won’t have to contribute any funds towards your funeral.

Aura ensures that your money is protected. The funds for your funeral are safely held in an independently managed trust, separate from our day-to-day business. We’re also backed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, providing an extra layer of security.
