Why families choose to attend

16

Not everyone wants a traditional funeral, but many people still value the chance to come together and say goodbye in person.

The families we have served have told us that what matters most is simply being there. For some, that means a small, quiet gathering at the crematorium with just a handful of people. There’s no procession, no expectations, and no pressure.

If this sounds like what you’re looking for, Aura’s Attended Funeral Plan may be the right choice. It allows loved ones to be present at the crematorium for a simple and respectful farewell, without the complexity or formality of a traditional funeral.

Two attended funeral plans

Aura offers two attended funeral plan options.

Both include everything needed for the cremation. The difference is how many guests and how much time you’d like on the day.

A real person by your family’s side

When the time comes, your family won’t have to face it alone. Our team of Aura Angels will be there.

They are a dedicated team of compassionate end-of-life specialists who take care of everything, from coordinating the ceremony at your chosen crematorium to handling the paperwork and all the details in between.

Although we support families right across the UK, the care we offer never feels anything other than personal. Your family will have a real person by their side, someone who understands the funeral process, and is there to make everything feel clear and manageable.

Families often tell us that having an Aura Angel made all the difference. Not just because everything was taken care of, but because they felt truly supported by someone who genuinely cared.

What happens during Aura’s attended funerals

Arriving at the crematorium

On the day of the service, all guests make their own way to the crematorium. There is no hearse, procession, or formal arrival. Funerals can bring many different emotions, and this simple option offers a calm setting to grieve with loved ones without pressure. If you choose our Intimate Funeral Plan, the service takes place in the early morning. Our Fully Attended Plan is typically held during the daytime.

Entering the chapel

When you arrive at the chapel, the coffin will already be in place on the catafalque. This means there is no need for pallbearers or any formal procession into the room. Guests can simply take their seats as a chosen song is played and the service can begin naturally.

During the service

Aura’s attended funeral plans do not include a celebrant or minister. This means families are free to lead the service themselves, or our friendly team can help them arrange a celebrant through the Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC).

Personalised ceremony

Loved ones are welcome to bring personal touches to the ceremony, such as flowers, photographs, or other visual tributes. Our team will also organise with the crematorium so that music and picture slideshows are played during the service.

After the service

Many families choose to see the attended cremation as just one part of remembering someone’s life. Afterwards, your loved ones might want to hold a wake, an ashes ceremony, or another gathering where friends and family can come together and celebrate the person they loved.

When the time comes

We take care of everything with care and compassion.

On the day of the cremation, family and friends will gather at the crematorium you’ve chosen.

Your coffin will already be at the crematorium, and everyone will be welcomed into the chapel for the service. The ceremony can include music, readings, or simply quiet time together.

There is no celebrant included in the plan. However, our team will guide your family through planning the service, and they can help you find a celebrant if you would like one.

At the end of the service, the cremation takes place at the crematorium. Your ashes will then either be delivered to a loved one within 21 working days or scattered in the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance, depending on your wishes.

Your family can be as involved as they want in your cremation but our team is here to handle the details. We can organise the collection, paperwork and the cremation itself. Your family will still need to handle death registration, any floral tributes and a celebrant although we can offer recommendations and guidance.

We offer flexible payment plans so you can secure your plan today and pay over a longer term. You can either pay in full or spread the cost of your plan over 12 or 24 months.  The cost of your plan will stay the same no matter how you pay.

A family-led service means the ceremony is led by someone close to you rather than a formal officiant.

This gives families the freedom to create something that feels personal and meaningful.

Although a celebrant or minister is not included in the plan, your family can choose to arrange one if they would like.

The key difference between Aura’s two attended plans is the length of the service and the number of guests who can attend. No matter what plan you choose, you and your family will receive the same compassionate support from our team.

Our Intimate plan is a shorter service that will take place in the early morning for up to 15 guests.

Our Fully Attended plan is a longer service that takes place in the daytime for as many guests as the crematorium allows.

The exact length of the service and guest numbers will depend on the policies of the crematorium you choose.

When you arrange your plan with us, you can choose any crematorium in mainland Britain for your attended service.

If you move home or later decide you’d prefer a different crematorium, that’s absolutely fine. Just let us know by phone or email and we’ll update your plan.

If you choose an unattended cremation, the cremation will take place at a crematorium selected by Aura.

You can cancel or amend your funeral plan with Aura at any time.

We offer free lifetime cancellations, which means you’ll receive a full refund of whatever you’ve paid if you decide the plan is no longer right for you.

If you’d like to make changes or cancel your plan, our team will guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Our attended direct cremation plan offers a simple, no-fuss option that is similar to a traditional funeral, without many of the unnecessary and expensive costs. There are no hearses or limousines, or high-end coffins. Our team will take the person who has died to the crematorium privately, and we respectfully lay them to rest in the chapel before the family arrives. All of our funeral plans include a simple, wood-effect coffin, but your family are welcome to change this when the time comes if they would like (however please note this is not included in the cost of the plan, so additional charges for this will apply).
