Attended Direct Cremations
from £2,095
With Aura’s attended direct cremation services you can arrange a low-cost, meaningful service at a local crematorium.

What is an attended direct cremation?

An Aura direct cremation is a low-cost, easier alternative to a traditional funeral.
There’s none of the fuss of hearses, processions or limousines. We simply bring the person who has died to the crematorium in a private ambulance on the day of their cremation.
While a direct cremation is normally unattended, Aura offers attended options, unlike many providers. Families can arrange a simple, low-cost service for a meaningful goodbye at a crematorium. Our team can also help you to select a celebrant or a religious minister to oversee the service.

How to arrange an attended direct cremation

Verifying the death
After a person has died, the death will need to be verified by a medical professional such as a doctor or coroner.

Arranging collection
Once the death has been verified, we will make arrangements to bring them into care as soon as possible.

Registering the death
The death will need to be registered and there will be a few legal forms to complete before the cremation can occur.

Finding a celebrant
We partner with the Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC). Our Angels will help you select a celebrant who will work closely with you to design a service in honour of your loved one.

Arranging the service
Depending on your choice, the service will be between 15 and 45 minutes. The Aura Angels will oversee the whole process, including arranging music, orders of service and returning the ashes.

Returning the ashes
After the cremation has taken place, we’ll scatter the ashes on your behalf at the crematorium’s Garden of Remembrance. Alternatively, we can hand-deliver the ashes back to you at home.

Attended Cremation FAQs
-
What is a direct cremation?
-
It’s a popular, cheaper alternative to a traditional funeral. Normally there is no ceremony and no mourners. We collect the person who has died, bring them into our care, and then take them to the crematorium when it’s time.
-
Can I attend a direct cremation?
-
Absolutely. Unlike other funeral providers, we give that choice to you. You can decide to celebrate your loved one’s life right after their cremation, or gather your friends and family together at a later date. It’s up to you.
-
How can I trust that you will give me back the right ashes?
-
We work with established partners, many of whom are registered with NAFD and SAIF who have stringent codes of conduct around identification checks and the handling of ashes. The cremator is also cleaned thoroughly between each use, making sure that there is no mixing of ashes. Trained, professional morticians oversee the whole process.
-
Is a direct cremation expensive?
-
Direct cremation tends to be a lot cheaper than a traditional funeral, as it doesn’t include most of the expensive formalities, like floral tributes and hearses. Aura’s direct cremations start at £1,195, which is less than half of the cost of the UK average total funeral spend, according to SunLife.
